Management Tyre

TIRE ACQUISITION PROCESS
INTRODUCTION : Retreading, repairing, reconditioning and tire and wheel disposal

TIRE ACQUISITION
To select the best tire, consider:
- vehicle type and application
- vehicle load
- vendor selection
- tread selection
- warranty
TREAD SELECTION
- Tread provides traction, wear and protects the casing
- Four basic types of tread are:

- Tread selection is a compromise

TIRE MAINTENANCE PROCESS
Tire maintenance sub-processes:
- maintaining proper inflation
- mounting and demounting tires
- inspecting tires in use
- inspecting out of service tires
- removing tires for recycling
MAINTAINING PROPER INFLATION
Overinflation or underinflation can contribute to:
- decreased tread life
- decreased fuel mileage
- abnormal tread wear
- ply and tread separations
- sidewall flex breaks
- cuts and punctures
- impact breaks
- damaged vehicles
- loss of vehicle control
- serious accidents
MAINTAINING PROPER INFLATION
Overinflated tires:
- are more vulnerable to impact and road hazard damage
- do not compensate for overloading the vehicle
- can result in a 5 to 15% loss of tread wear mileage
- can damage a casing
Underinflated tires:
- build up excessive heat
- heat weakens the bond of rubber to steel
- results in ply separations and fewer retreadable casings
- reduce tread mileage
- increase fuel consumption
Check inflation regularly with a properly calibrated gauge:
- when the truck is at the fuel island
- during regular maintenance checks
- during daily or weekly scheduled tire checks
- when you spot a tire which appears to have a problem
Acceptable inflation is within a range of 10% less to 10% over fleet standard Mated duals must be within 10 psi of each other
